A year on from our merger with leading Jersey civil and structural engineering firm T & G Limited and McCathie Associates Limited (MAL) continues to go from strength to strength.
We are now part of the largest single-discipline engineering consultancy in the Channel Islands and, together with our Jersey partners T & G and building surveyors MDW Limited, we make up the T & G Group.
Our 19-strong team boasts five Chartered Engineers (three of whom are SER certified) as well as extensive knowledge and expertise in all aspects of structural and civil engineering consultancy and building surveying across a multitude of different sectors.
Combined, the experience, skills and resources of the T & G Group can deal with pretty much any civil and structural design challenge that can be faced in the Channel Islands while still remaining at a manageable size for its constituent markets.
The last 12 months have also seen a number of other changes, including our move to new premises at Caslon Court in Pitronnerie Road and a restructuring of the management team across the two islands.
T & G Group chairman Ian Bashforth has taken on the role of managing director of McCathie Associates, with specific responsibility for developing potential new markets, and he will be supported by new director Patricia Newell Maher, who will be responsible for overseeing the continued expansion of the Guernsey office and also director Sara Devitt who will be responsible for technical excellence.
An experienced Chartered Engineer, Patricia joined the company in September 2010 and, prior to her move to Guernsey, had been running NME Consultants, a small engineering consultancy based in Galway. She holds a degree in structural engineering from Trinity College, Dublin and spent the early part of her career in the Cork Office of Fehily Timoney & Company, one of the leading Irish-owned independent consultants, where she was project engineer and manager on a number of medium to large scale projects.
Similarly, in Jersey, Sara Devitt has been appointed managing director of T & G Limited.
Sara began her career with Ove Arup & Partners and, during her 11 years with the firm, worked on large capital projects and high rise developments in London, Hong Kong and Ireland and was the lead engineer on the five-storey Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin and numerous industrial and ‘top spec’ office buildings along the banks of the River Liffey.
A former secretary of the Republic of Ireland branch and council member of the Institution of Structural Engineers during the country's construction boom, Sara joined T & G Limited as associate director in late 2008, becoming a shareholding director in 2010. A qualified SER certifier, she has since overseen a number of luxury and high end residential projects in Jersey.
Commenting on recent developments, T & G Group chairman Ian Bashforth said the merger between T & G and MAL had been the first of a number of planned strategic opportunities designed to increase market potential and add value to the business offering.
“We are already seeing the benefits of the merger and there is increasing realization within the marketplace of the skills and resources we have at our disposal and a recognition that we are now able to handle bigger and more complex projects than we would have managed in the past,” he added.
